  1. Anyone who thinks it's cool to loose your legs must be a complete idiot. If you want to loose your legs, why not do it the quickest way and just saw your legs off, but please don't stop there, make sure you work on removing your head also. Buerger's Disease is not a joking matter. Would you make fun of your mother if she had breast cancer or your dad if he had colon cancer? Everyone who smokes should see this ad. It's very much a real disease.

  2. lol come on now.. really? this is hardly caused from smoking. I don't even smoke and I have to really laugh at how silly this is getting.

  3. Go and do a little research. Try typing "Buerger's" and "smoking" into Google scholar and see how many hits you get.

  4. no, look at her lelft hand at 19 seconds, it still has the short pinky. She said she lost her fIngerTIPS, probably at the last knuckle.

  5. I found out last week that I have this and believe me the pain that comes along with it is no fun at all. I have quit smoking and was told by doctors if I start back up that I will loose my legs for sure.

  6. Gee….. and I thought smoking costed an arm and a leg nowadays, but I have to believe this guy's got it pegged….

  7. My friend had a stroke three weeks ago. He has COPD. I quit smoking 5 weeks ago after he had a horrible cough attack while I was driving him home.

  8. Sad 🙁 But nice to see such amazing and well thought out ad's Warning people about the effects of smoiking 🙂

  9. My Dad has this Disease its real and can happen to anyone who starts smoking…. He started smoking when he was 10 years old… Once he heard he was going to lose his foot he quit smoking that very day….

  10. Your fine now, but when your older it will hit you like a ton of bricks. It did for my dad he's 49 now. And because of his Smoking he has this disease and almost lost his foot. Because of the smoking he has circulation problems. I hope this never happens to you, because its devastating :/

  11. My brother worked with the guy and told me that he knew WELL before his legs were amputated that if he quit he would be fine. He kept smoking so that he could get money, he talked about it at work saying he was gonna get paid.

  12. I have buerger's disease, and yes I do smoke but my vascular surgeon said that at least for me that this disease is hereditary and I have actually had it all my life, and smoking just "sped" up the process. So instead of it cropping up in my 40s or50s, it happened 2 years ago when I was 24 years old and had my right leg amputated below the knee. 95% of buerger cases are found in men and the middle east, Buerger's disease has ALOT to do with your genetic makeup, not just smoking.

  13. These commercials are so disturbing that they make me feel like my skin is peeling from my body. Yah that is how disturbing the commercials are.

  14. its because smoking is an industry, a large majority of countries rely on the smoking company because it generates a massive income :/

  15. I like the education program against smoking. I am completely against this war on drugs we have waged, but I like these ads. Education stops people from smoking. If we banned smoking, more people would do it. Because I have been so properly educated on the effects of smoking, I was able to conclude that there is nothing good that can come from smoking, and it is a terrible idea, when I was about 5 years old. I am 23 today, and I have never smoked a cigarette.

  16. My mom smoked when she was young and eventually quit when she had me and my brother, then started again. I got her to quit back in 1999, but she started again in 2005 and quit two years after. I lost an aunt to lung cancer because she smoked a lot.

Those were reasons for me not to smoke. I'm 23 and cigarettes are not for us kids or adults, regardless of what we need to calm our nerves. Just these ads should convince smokers to quit and non-smokers not to start.

  17. Muinki, my voice my br familiar because I did a commercial for nyc giving away free patches. Also known as Marie from the Bronx. Not an actor, this is my life

  18. This is true but smoking enhances the problem, believe me I knnow. I continued to smoke after all my amputations because I figured the damage was done. I finally realized if I stop smoking maybe the amputations would stop and sure enough I stopped and guess what no more amputations, Not saying that I may have more again(hope not) but at least I have a better chance with my arteries not be constricted by nicotine. No 1 in my family has anything like this and I am african american so no gennerics

  19. We never said this will happen to all that smoke but it is a possibility. Why play Russian Roulette with your life!!!!!

  20. Sorry man. You need to do a Google search. The AVERAGE smoker lives 13 to 14 years less than the average. The average smoker in Minnesota smokes is 12.2 in 2010. How many do you smoke? If you smoke every now and again, you can take 10 minutes off your life for each cigarette, not counting the time it took you to smoke it. You do the math. All stats can be found on the CDC website.

  21. As I was watching Rupaul's Drag Race online, this commercial repeatedly came on along with others. I literally wanted to vomit in my mouth. And they wouldn't stop. Sometimes it was they were shown 4x in a row… The lady with the wig getting ready, the stroke victim being bathed by her son… I haven't smoke since that day. I'm 18 days smoke free.

  22. Quitting smoking is not easy, but there are FREE resources for those who want help to quit. The National Cancer Institute has a fact sheet that gives tips for handling withdrawal symptoms. You can also call 1-800-QUIT-NOW and talk to a cessation counselor who can help you develop a quit plan and offer information about how to handle withdrawal symptoms.

  23. Smoking is bad and I do not do it. But this ad is slightly misleading.

Buerger's disease is an autoimmune reaction from your body in response to the tobacco. It is pretty much dormant in certain people and smoking "awakens" that disease. If you aren't genetically susceptible to getting it, smoking will not give it to you.

  24. The first time I saw this young man in this ad was in a video "No If's and or Butt's" it has one of the biggest impact on young people because Brandon's story show what could happen in the near future as a result of smoking. Most effects happen 20, 30 or more years later in life which is difficult for a teenager to really think that it could happen to them. His story makes it much more in the here and now for them.

  25. There is no safe-level of smoking. Each cigarette damages your lungs, blood vessels and cells throughout your body.

  27. It would be great if it were a habit, then it would be easier to stop. The fact is that it is an addiction to a drug, any drug is difficult to break free from. I found it easy to break away from it using the Allen Carr method – I hope you find this useful.

  28. I bet people haven't heard of this years ago because tobacco companies must have paid millions of dollars in settlements and made people sign a waiver. But now the truth has come out some way or the other.

  29. Thousands of people are afflicted with Buerger’s disease, and almost all of them used tobacco. The blood vessels of the hands and feet are especially affected in people who have Buerger’s disease. These blood vessels tighten or become totally blocked, sometimes requiring amputation of limbs. Although Buerger’s disease affects only about 10 adults per 100,000—mostly tobacco users aged 20 to 40—it’s a disease all tobacco users should be aware of.

  30. Really you think your lungs and arteries take a break and only work sometimes. Any time you put a cigerette to your mouth you are taking years from your life…guess what your choice!!!!!

  31. I'm glad to hear that but who knows what the future will bring. Why take a chance on doing something that you know now could possibly harm you in the future. At 37 I was fine too at 43 they amputated my leg…good luck!!!

  32. Are you crazy I don't know what you were seeing but as of today I have one fully amputated finger five fingertips amputated. Out of ten fingers I still have 3 wow how lucky am I!!!!!

  33. Smoking can cause gangrene, because it has the same kind of effects on the nerve tissues as diabetes.

  34. Cigarettes are really nasty but You (those that post this) have no right to tell anyone else what to do. Sure you will say you are not by saying the "awareness" ploy but in reality you are. I am a cigar smoker and will not quit until I want and nothing you do or try to influence will stop me.

  35. My lung randomly collapsed and I thought it was a cold. I spent the night vomiting and not being able to sleep. My Doctor made me go to the ER and on the way I blacked out and thought I was dying. I came to , then while awake, the Doctors inserted a tube in my chest, had it there for a few days, now I am better. It was terrible. They said even though it was random, smoking was probably the cause. Just thought I would share my story to try to help people to quit smoking.

  36. In a few decades we'll be seeing hordes of global warming deniers acquiesce to their ignorance and greed. Same general mentality of wanting to feel good in the moment vs. long term risk assessment. Don't deny it.

  37. They wont show a women or child beaten by a "Drunk" They wont show a Car crash on a bottle of Jim or Jack and say this drunk killed a 3 month baby, it's head, legs and arms were ripped off in the accident when he crossed left of center. No they wont put that on bottles of liquor

  38. Thousands of people are afflicted with Buerger’s disease, and almost all of them used tobacco. The blood vessels of the hands and feet are especially affected in people who have Buerger’s disease. Although Buerger’s disease affects only about 10 adults per 100,000—mostly tobacco users aged 20 to 40—it’s a disease all tobacco users should be aware of.

  39. All of the illnesses depicted can and do result from smoking. This campaign aims to educate the public about the many adverse health conditions for which smoking is a contributing factor. Thousands of people are afflicted with Buerger’s disease, and almost all of them used tobacco. Although Buerger’s disease affects only about 10 adults per 100,000—mostly tobacco users aged 20 to 40—it’s a disease all tobacco users should be aware of.

  40. Its sad to see so many people in denial about the damage smoking is doing to you, have a visit to your local nursing homes and see some of the patients that are now suffering terribly due to the effects of their smoking, as a medical professionaland a 19 year pack a day smoker who quit 3 months ago with chantix and loads of distraction, I beg you not to give up on yourself or your health !

  41. Studies have shown that smoking can activate the one part the thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) but not fully. People who smoke already have both the parts that causes TAO in them and smoking could cause that to come out. I feel that if you're going to say anything causes anything that you need to get your facts right. CDC do some research because this does seems weird and like most on here they don't believe it. There is more to getting TAO and smoking does NOT cause it.

  42. You are correct. Buerger Disease is fairly uncommon; for that reason you don't see every smoker missing limbs. However, this condition is almost always found in smokers and is just one more reason to stop smoking. As a matter of fact, medical treatment for Buerger is simply: stop smoking.

  43. Until I was diagnosed with Buerger's Disease, I had never heard of it either. Most people have never heard of Buerger's Disease. Look into it for you think it's propaganda. Just because you've never seen someone afflicted or heard of it before doesn't make it false though. Fortunately I stopped in time to keep from loosing a couple fingers on my hand. But I always have to be careful of injuries not only to hands, but to my feet as well. I suppose you make fun of Cancer patients also.

  44. This happened to by grandfather and now my aunt. He was 27 when he had his first heart attack and died by 32 after several heart attacks and strokes. He had both legs amputated because of this disease. It certainly isn't just "propaganda".

  45. My god! This is really hard to watch, but easy to get.
In my opinion, exercise is the most helpful practice to quit smoking.
You should put this kind of advertise in Mexico. Congrats and thank you. Very helpful.

  46. Not being aware of a topic or subject matter is not an argument against its existence. Just go to any search engine and look up "Buerger's disease smoking"–especially google scholar (where you can find hardcore, real academic articles on it). It's a real disease and smoking can definitely cause it 🙁

  47. Funny side note is that today is my first day of not smoking and this ad was on a video I was going to watch. I was about to go get cigarettes, cuz I was like, "BLAH! I'll just quit tomorrow….." I felt crappy and on the outside, I was saying I was quitting, but on the inside, I kind of already knew I was willing to give into failure….. Then I ran into this video and was like, "NOPE!" @[email protected] *rocks silently in the corner* "No cigarettes… No cigarettes…. No cigarettes!!!" ROFL Thanks

  48. I have she lost he leg below the knee, and right before her death they were going to take off her other leg

  49. >for which smoking is a contributing factor
This sort of jargon is where it becomes a little harder to take seriously. How much of a contributor? What are the other factors? How loose are the guidelines for considering a minor statistical correlation significant enough to call a 'contributing factor?' Honestly, smoking is bad for you, no one disputes that, but this stuff where you find the most extreme, bizarre, fringe cases that you can maybe kind of tie to smoking if you squint is silly.

  50. This here is true so why do I see people pressuring others to smoke? Is it cool? no and this is why many innocent people become addicts because of other screwed up people.

  51. To learn more about Buerger’s Disease and how smoking and tobacco use are related to this condition visit: cdc.gov/tips/diseases.

  52. Nix Nil you think is easy but I know for sure that you don't want people to laugh at the way you talk

  53. "Thousands of people are afflicted with Buerger’s disease, and almost all of them used tobacco."

Could you cite some actual numbers please? Also, any other factors with a positive correlation? Some speculation as to the reasons for the correlation from the scientific community? This is what I'm talking about. I asked several questions about clarification, and you threw a vague uncited statement out and then changed the subject slightly so as not to directly answer.

  54. stopping tobacco use is strongly correlated with stopping progression of the disease. the destruction of the blood vessels in the limbs appears to be an autoimmune reaction triggered by tobacco. genetics seems to be another contributing factor, but you wouldn't know if you had the genes until your limbs start rotting away. all in all, it's probably better to get a rare disease like buerger's than the vastly more common heart diseases, cancers, and COPD from smoking.

  55. Do your really need numbers to be convinced. Just Google Buerger's Disease and you'll see some of the most respected universities in the world have done research on this horrible disease. All you have to do is smoke and get it. Nothing else. Take it from someone who knows first hand.

  56. I dont understand why these commercials keep being aired. Every smoker knows the dangers of smokeing. Its not like they are going to wake up one day see this ad and say wow smoking is bad for you? ill quit now. Instead of scare tactics why not just make a commercial on giving tips to stop smoking.

  57. The only Real diseases you can get from smoking are COPD and Lung cancer (even tough lungcancer is doubted to be caused by smoking by some scientist) But lets be real. Smoking does make the blood circulate slower and theres less oxygen for the blood cells. But technicly you could blame all the diseases a smoker gets for his smoking habit. But lets be honest the only diseases that are directly a cause of smoking are so far COPD and Lung/troathcancer. Mostly Luncancer. True or not?!

  58. I seriously worry about some of the people who commented here on this site?? Buergers Disease is so very REAL!!! And YES!!!! If you SMOKE you could very well be one of those that ends up as a Buergers Disease victim! If you smoke….Buergers Disease will creep up on you one day without warning and start a process of rotting skin whether it be on your hands or your feet/legs..gangrene as it may be more familiar in terms with most of you. Dont be fooled that you can beat it…

  59. It will take and take until either you quit smoking or the Buergers WINS! Buergers Disease is directly caused by tobacco use! You are a complete idiot if you think otherwise…. As stated in one of the previous comments below… The destruction of one's blood vessel in the limbs appear to be an autoimmune reaction triggered by tobacco products. Genectics appear to be another contributing factor…but here is where it gets you… One does not know if you have that gene until … one day..

  60. ..One day, you find a small black spot has appeared on your skin. It hurts and the cold weather amplifies that pain… and so it begins. The process one's body goes thru with Buergers Disease is so incredibly painful. If it begins in your finger …that little black spot quickly turns your entire finger black as the blood vessels swell and doesnt allow the blood flow to that finger anymore : ( Imagine for a moment what that would feel like…

  61. The pain is so intense that you scream night after night for it to stop! Of course it does stop eventually…by then the rotting of your skin immediately begins.. and the pain is different now. If you touch that finger now, the skin just smears off! At this point…there is no medical option for your finger other than amputation! Its gone! If you still believe that you can continue to smoke … then you lose the next limb and the next..and so forth.

  62. The adverse health effects from cigarette smoking account for more than 440,000 deaths, each year. Smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, causing many diseases and reducing the health of smokers in general. Compared with nonsmokers, smoking increases the risk of heart disease, stroke, COPD, cancers throughout the entire body, adverse reproductive and early childhood effects, as well as numerous other health conditions.

  63. I saw a guy with three fingers on one hand and two on the other losing toes you dont lose a whole limb but piece by piece caused by clots in your capillaries this disease is what got me to quit after 10 years

  64. I have met people who lost limbs, fingers etc. from smoking. By your logic, since I've never met anyone who died of AIDS, that disease must not exist. I've never seen the genitals of a person with genital herpes either, so that must not exist either. Therefore I must conclude that lung cancer, emphysema, Buerger's disease are all real since I've seen them, but AIDS and Gential Herpes are urban legends.

  65. and to think they could have just quit smoking and after the first sign… but no…. lets blame it on cigarettes, not oursleves. like i could blame morbid obesity on food.

  66. Amputee in Army commercial: I'm proud of what I've done. I served my country and learned a lot. You should totally join.

Amputee in smoking commercial: Look at what smoking did to me! You don't want to end up like this!

  67. It is caused by smoking! I have Buergers Disease, and it is a horrendous, rare disease caused gy smoking! The point is that smoking will get you- emphysema, copd heart attacks, cancer, strokes, and this, Buergers Disease, for which there is no known cure. Stop thinking it wont happen to me, it will as you get older. Listen, we all know the facts and statistics, and if you continue to smoke, then your ignorance will surely kill you one day. And, just think of all the money youre spending to die. Stop smoking now, one day for sure, you will kick yourself for not doing it while there ws still tim!

  68. I want both of you to live each other as roommates I don't have a roommate I wanna all of your roommate like Marlene ,Kristy Nathan,Rose and Terrie passed away
    Terrie 2013
    Rose 2015
    Shane 2016
Nathan they all could have lived for roommate and not all each by themselves
